Workflow AutoCAD plugin

You can notice the following elements in the picture:

  • Blue circles. These are clickable and represent references to other images (can be turned on/off in the options)
  • Projected lines and points having the same stylization as in the AutoCAD editor (can be turned on/off in the options)
  • Orange camera representing current FOV (Field of View)
  • Red crosses representing other RecordingLocations
Note: The clickable 'circles' are not always blue. The colour depends on the year the picture was acquired.

Requirements

Requirements before one can use the tool:

  • The drawing data should be in one of the supported coordinate systems.
  • A valid username/password that gives you access to the Cyclomedia imagery
  • Access to the internet, since RecordingLocations (aka camera positions) will get downloaded from Cyclomedia Server

These settings can be configured in the AutoCAD options (type OPTIONS at the command line) and navigate to the VNS SPATIAL DATA CENTER tab.

Workflow

To start using the tool follow the procedure below:

  1. Open the drawing of interest (make sure the required coordinate system is active)
  2. Click the CYCLO button in the AutoCAD status bar (lower right hand side). Accept the dialog and the CycloMedia Viewer should load automatically (See picture at the top of your screen)
  3. If you are zoomed in close enough, you should see that markers appear. These markers represent the actual RecordingLocations (aka camera positions). You'll notice that if you pan in the drawing to another location, the recordinglocations are updated on the fly.
  4. To open a specific image, click on the arrow button in the CM Viewer. You'll need to pick 2 locations:
    • the first point clicked specifies the point you want to look at
    • the second point will snap to recordinglocations, it will open the picture and view the requested point. There will also be a circle drawn around the selected point; If the circle is green, the selected point is not too far from the point of interest, otherwise it will be red. This is important information if you want to digitize.
  5. You can now see the panorama picture loaded in the CM viewer and start navigating. Notice the response on the AutoCAD screen
Note: Use the different navigation options in the CM Viewer:

  • Scroll the middle mouse button to zoom in (forward) or out (backward)
  • Click and hold the left mouse button to turn in the desired direction: left side to rotate left, up to look upwards, right to turn to the right side, or down to look down

CM Viewer

The CycloMedia viewer is more than just a viewer. It can also be used to digitize features, it can be used for measuring purposes or used to take a snapshot that should be used in a report. At the lower left bottom of the CM Viewer window you can see the coordinates of the recordinglocation in active coordinate system. In the lower right hand corner, you can see the date the image was recorded The functionality is described below:

  • Open an image
  • Digitize feature in the image and project result to AutoCAD editor
  • Measure heights (point object)
  • Measure lengths (linear object)
  • Take a snapshot to save the image to disk (as BMP,JPG,TIF or PNG)
  • Change brightness of the image

Options

It is very important to set your options correctly:

  • You need to decide whether you want to work 2D or 3D
  • You need to set a coordinate system
  • You need to set several options specific to CycloMedia.

All the options are explained here
